Our programs are divided into three categories: Outreach Programs, Educational Programs and Life Skills Programs.
OUTREACH PROGRAMS
STREET OUTREACH
Street based workers actively seek-out homeless and runaway youth to provide supportive assistance such as housing, shelter, food, hygiene products, blankets and information and referrals. Providing individualized services such as free school supplies, clothing, mentorship, information and referrals, transportation assistance, and school fees to youth and their families in order to guarantee equal access to education. To learn More....
EXODUS HOUSE
Twenty-four hour short-term emergency shelter in a home setting, providing support and services for homeless, runaway and at risk youth ages 10 – 17 years old. To learn More....
SUMMER LUNCH
Fulfilling the nutritional needs of low income youth during the summer months with daily distribution of free FDA sponsored nutritional lunches. Distribution sites include both city and rural areas. To learn More....
YOUTH CENTER
An after-school program for 1st – 6th graders in the Mills Addition Neighborhood. Structured programs include educational and enrichment activities, an FDA sponsored snack food program and volunteer opportunities. To learn More....
EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS
IYS' Alternative School IYS School is an accredited alternative school for students in the 4th - 12th grades. We provide a low teacher-to-student ratio in a structured classroom environment to help students who are unable to maintain success, behaviorally or academically, in the regular school environment. Students can earn original credits or work towards credit recovery. The goal is to return the student to his/her school with the tools to succeed in these areas. To learn More....
TEAMWORK
The IYS Teamwork program is designed to give students hands-on experience with vocational job skills. Students work with a trained Teamwork facilitator who guides them through safety guidelines, steps in the work process, and assessment of work completed. LIFE SKILLS PROGRAMS
RIGHT THE WRONG
Adjudicated youth are referred by the local Juvenile Justice System to this program. These youth are 14-17 years old and owe a debt to society. To pay their debt to society they work at various jobs around their community. These jobs can be for local non-profit and public sector organizations only. To learn More....
SUMMER YOUTH EMPLOYMENT
Youth 14-21 years old learn job search, job skills and job maintenance in this program. With the cooperation and partnership of various community partners IYS provides from 3-5 summer work crews for 8-week work projects. These projects give youth the opportunity to learn how to obtain and keep a job, from the application process through to the final evaluation for summer. To learn More....
INDEPENDENT LIVING
Youth 14-21 are provided training to help them be better equipped for adulthood in this program. With one-to-one mentoring, facilitated groups and case-management the youth are actively thinking and learning about what it will take to live successfully as an adult.
